ON8 SK8GOTCHI

This story started out as a small personal project for me and grew into something much more. I’ve always loved watching people skate - done well it’s such a beautiful, graceful thing to watch. That’s what originally drew me to contacting and photographing the amazing women of SK8Gotchi,  but as I delved deeper I found an amazing, positive, inclusive community that was much more than the sum of its parts. Life is hard at the moment, and particularly tough for young people trying to survive in an increasingly expensive city, but spending time with the skating community for me was a lesson in prioritising the important things in life - community, friendship, acceptance and having fun together despite life's challenges.
